The Management of Hope Builders International Consult, a Non Governmental Organization in Kaduna State, has called on Governor Ahmed Nasir El-rufai, to support the girl child education in every way possible to ensure they are comfortable in school during their menstruation period.
Chief Executive Officer to the organization, Dr. Mathias B. Yashim, made the call on Tuesday during their visit to Government day Secondary School, Kakuri, Kaduna, said menstruation is a natural thing and not the fault of the girl child, therefore, it is unfair for them to stay back from school because of that.
According to United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, (UNICEF) Many girls stay out of school because of menstruation.
“I will like to call on Governor Nasir El-rufai to support this program, “Pad a girl initiative” so that our sisters can be comfortable during their periods. Most young girls stay back from school during menstruation for the sake of stigma.”
Mathias urged male students to treat their fellow female counterparts in love rather than looking at them with disdain, Said no Woman has control over menstruation.
“There is nothing wrong for some of the male counterparts who are financially bouyant in school, at home or wherever to buy pad and support their colleagues during their menstruation period. It is not their fault that they are menstruating. It is a natural thing which they do not have control over, just like when someone is pressed. So they should be treated with love. He added.
The humanitarian further discouraged young girls from using rags, napkins and Newspapers, noted that there is no way it could be used without stain.
The Women team under the auspices of the Hope Builders Consult, enlightened the secondary School girls on the need to keep themselves clean during this period of their lives.
“Managing menstruation is very easy. Just ensure you do not use your under wear more than 4-6 hours, wash your body thoroughly, wash your under clothes with warm water, always take enough water, use a good sanitary pad and do not be ashamed to speak out when it is time. By so doing you can be able to manage the period well.”
